Tim Hyland

In 1985, at the age of 27, Tim Hyland opened the doors to his own flooring store in Traverse City, Michigan. Within 10 years the operation grew with 5 additional locations throughout Northern Michigan and was ranked as one of the Top 100 Retailers in the United States.

In 2011, after a brief and temporary retirement, Tim could no longer deny is Type A personality and on the day his 7 year non-compete clause expired he was back into the flooring business. However, this time Tim wanted to stand apart from most independent flooring stores and compete with the big box stores. He opened Cash N Carry Flooring and never looked back. Cash N Carry continued to provide customers with additional options for their flooring needs. Yet, Tim realized he needed a way to exhibit his laminate inventory more effectively.

This led to Tim designing a pallet topper that allowed Luxury Vinyl Plank, Ceramic Tile, and Hardwood to be displayed while stock was stored on the pallet below. 50 pallet topper displays were manufactured and utilized in Tim’s business. Soon after he found he was able to show all the variations of his products to his customers. This led to higher margins in sales.

In 2019, Tim filed and was awarded a patent on these displays. Tim says, “It truly cleans up your back room and give more of a professional look to compete against your competition.”
